/ Renters Assistance (HRA) is an annual payment made by the State of California
to qualified individuals. Payment is based on one’s total household income
and a percentage of the assessed value of one’s home. Renters may also
qualify for assistance, as a portion of the rent is presumed to have been used
to pay property taxes.
Trained

Roadmap
for ATOD Prevention Activities
In 2004, Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson initiated a countywide
Health Disparities Summit. Community members and stakeholders
identified alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) as a key
area requiring significant attention. The San Mateo County
Health Department took the lead and formed a Task Force that
included leaders from community-based organizations, county
departments, courts and probation, health care systems, law
enforcement, policy makers, schools, and youth-serving organizations,
as well as representatives from the Drug and Alcohol Advisory
Board (DAAB), the Tobacco Education Coalition (TEC) and the
Youth Commission.
The Task Force has published the Roadmap
for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention: A Guide
for Community Action.
It includes background information, ATOD statistics, an assessment
of community needs, principles for action, an action plan,
and a list of existing prevention programs. The Roadmap recommends
preventive actions to develop support for individuals, changing
social norms around substance use, and policies that affect
the availability and ease of access to ATOD.
The Roadmap is available online at www.smhealth.org/hppp.
To become involved or to learn more about the initiative,
